A journey from E-Commerce to High Street Retail

Only a few months ago, we were asked by a good friend of ours based in Cincinnati, Ohio to help them review their business and evolve it ready for the world of high street retail.   This was a brand that had been built purely online through a passion for a zero-waste lifestyle.  Having gained a huge following, Rachel Felous – founder of Simply Zero – wanted to take it to the next level; onto one of the most well-known streets in the state - all in 6 weeks!

Simply Zero is a brand that people respect.  Its focus is on respecting earth and helping support small changes to people’s lifestyles that generates awareness, care and a reduction in use of plastics and other materials that affect our planet.  This was something very exciting and we were delighted to be a part of.

After auditing the existing brand and understanding Rachel’s vision, it allowed us to better understand where it needs to be positioned in the market, the target audience and how we can look to evolve the brand and create a gorgeous new store design.

Maintaining the identity that had become recognisable, we created a suite of graphics for use in store, marketing, website, social media and a variety of packaging for both online and offline sales.  We wanted to utilise the icon that had been unintendedly created and make this a feature through the customer journey whilst also developing the colour palette to bring a little more maturity and personality.

The store that Rachel had secured was stunning with some natural brickwork and other touches that we wanted to utilise.  Setting the right layout was key as we wanted to make a feature of the new Refillery.  Making this the standout feature was key and then we could look to bring other supporting features to life as the customers roamed through the store.  Bringing in some beautiful wood display shelving, an intriguing wall peg board that looked simplistic yet so effective, product displays beaming through the shopfront to attract that passing footfall along with some supporting greenery throughout to add a touch of nature.

We worked with Rachel to support implementing all aspects of the design so that her new store looked its very best from day one.

The overall design is one that we are extremely proud of.  Opening the doors in early December, Rachel was delighted with the final result and commented “working with Tonik was an absolute pleasure.  They listened to my vision and understood what I wanted to gain not just now but in the future.  The design ideas and features they have brought to my brand make me and my customers smile.  I love the new refillery, the shopfront is really engaging, and I have so many customers that comment on how nice the store looks – and that’s largely thankful to the team at Tonik.”
